Windows Server Tips: How to Fix DNS Server Not Exists Issue


When you running your DC and DNS server in local environment and you try to add new server/computer to your existing domain controller you might be end up with following error.



Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "kgjs.local":

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)



How to fix this error:

There may be more than one root causes for this issue. The main issue may be local network unable to resolve DNS ip address if you configure to assign DNS automatically.  

First try to ping to your DNS server ip address

If unable to ping then go to your network adapter settings and check your DNS settings in IPv4.

If it set to obtain DNS server address automatically then point it to your DNS ip address.

Update DNS server address


Finally you will be able to add your computer to your local domain server.
